Privacy on KidsTube
KidsTube is a site for children, so we keep as little as we can. Here is who is responsible, what we keep and why, and what you can ask for.
Who we are
KidsTube is responsible for the data on this site. Contact details will follow here shortly.
Watching without an account
A child can browse, search and watch everything on KidsTube without an account. We never ask a child for a name, an email address or anything else. What the browser keeps then is on Cookies; Google Analytics only runs if someone says yes there. That question is meant for a grown-up.
Like any website, our hosting (Vercel) receives technical details with every visit, such as the IP address and the kind of browser. We use them only to keep the site working and safe. Each video counts how often it was watched, without remembering by whom.
With an account
An account is for the grown-up. What it keeps — your email address, your favorites, Recently watched, My list, your suggestions and messages, screen time and the PIN — is described exactly on How it works. We use it only to make those features work.
To run the site we see, per account: when it was made, on the website or in the app, how many videos were watched on it and how many favorites it has, and when it was last used. Which videos those are, we do not see — Recently watched and your favorites are yours alone. Messages you send through Feedback we do read, with your email address, so we can reply.
Why we may do this
- Your account and everything in it: to provide the service you ask for when you make an account.
- Google Analytics: only with consent, which you can withdraw at any time on Cookies.
- Security, technical details and the counts above: our legitimate interest in keeping the site safe and seeing whether it is used.
Who else handles the data
We sell nothing and share nothing for advertising. These companies process data for us:
- Supabase — the database, logging in and the login and password emails.
- Vercel — hosting the website.
- Google — if you log in with Google, and Google Analytics if you said yes to it.
- YouTube — the videos themselves, in privacy-enhanced mode. Once a video plays, YouTube's own rules apply; see Cookies.
Some of these companies are in the United States. Data goes there under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.
How long
- Your account and what is in it: until you erase it.
- Screen time per day: fourteen days.
- The cookie choice: half a year, after which we ask again.
- Technical details at the hosting: briefly, under Vercel's own retention.
What you can ask
You may see your data, have it corrected or erased, object, restrict how it is used and take it with you. Most of it you can do yourself: under Parents → Account there is "Delete my data", which removes everything from your account except the login itself. If you want your login and email address gone too, or anything else on this list, ask us using the contact details above. If you disagree with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens) or the authority where you live.
